Kidney Dialysis Patients, Engineer Muhammad

In the dialysis ward, while distributing humanitarian aid as usual, I met Engineer Mohammed. Though his frail body was tethered to the dialysis machine, his spirit was soaring elsewhere. He greeted me with a radiant smile and said in elegant English: “You have a beautiful smile, and you are a beautiful person.”

I have always known that the vast majority of Gaza is highly educated, but what truly struck me was the power of his smile, his beautiful soul, and his profound intellect despite his suffering. As I sat beside him, we drifted away from the hospital noise into his memories of studying architecture in Libya and his long career across Europe. In that hour, I realized it was Uncle Mohammed who was giving me hope, not the other way around.

Engineer Mohammed is not an isolated case. In the next bed lay an ER doctor who spent years serving patients, and beside him were an English teacher, a nurse, and another engineer. These individuals, whom we see in their moments of physical vulnerability, are the true pillars and brilliant minds of our society.

They have refused to be broken by illness or genocide; instead, these hardships have only added to their dignity and stature.

I left the ward certain of one thing: hope is not born from ease. It springs from the hearts of people who, despite all their pain, choose to smile at life. These are the people your donations support—and they are truly worthy of all the love and dignity in the world.
