Meet the people: Inside Bukrah Foundation’s Program
We Were His Family When He Lost His Own
With a small body only eight years old and a single leg left behind by the shelling, the child Rateb stood alone against life’s harshest challenges.
Having lost both his father and mother, Rateb moved to live with his elderly grandfather in a torn tent that offered no shelter from the winter cold or the summer heat.
In a heartbreaking display of resilience, he used a simple water pipe as a makeshift prosthetic to help him walk.
Rateb’s dream was simple yet profound: a proper tent, a real prosthetic limb, and the chance to live with dignity.
When Rateb’s plea reached our hearts, our journey with him began. We first secured a dignified tent and essential supplies to restore stability for him and his grandfather.
Today, Rateb is no longer alone. He has become an important member of our Al-Bait Village, where he receives primary education, intensive psychological support, healthcare, and the opportunity to play in safety and peace.
Our next goal is to provide Rateb with an advanced prosthetic limb, allowing him to run toward the future he deserves.
We became his family when he lost his own, and we will always stand beside children like Rateb — restoring the hope that hardship tried to take away.
